UsersWP login page behaviour

Hi Doug

I'm picked up some strange UsersWP behaviour, which is confusing our new users:

On the site SBCN (and WOZALapha) when a new user registers for the first time, once they've completed their details, they get an activation email, with a link to click.

Link example: https://sbcn.co.za/?uwp_activate=yes&key=APuHKLlwNW2PrSkbCKJ8&login=bizarray

This redirects them to the 'initial' login page, which is not the actual site page (see attached image), it has the Redshift page background and logo, and in the URL the is an error variable being passed: https://sbcn.co.za/login/?uwp_err=act_success

The functionality seems fine, as the new user is still able to login with their credentials, however it is just confusing them as it looks like they're being taken to a different site (RedShift). This only happens once, thereafter if the user logs out and back in again they get the correct login page.

Please advise how we can prevent this from happening? Is there a setting that needs to change somewhere? I can't find anything about it in the support pages.

Hi Greg,

Actually, the biggest problem is the name of that default login page. See Redshift uses the /login for it's own login page (I have added a generic logo to that page now). So if you create a page called "login" on a mapped domain website, the URL becomes http://www.yourdomain.com/login...but this is an existing Redshift page (generic and default, cannot change).

So the solution is to change the slug of your login page. See SBCN site, I changed the login slug to 'login2'...so see this URL now (which is what the system should use the send a "login link" from now on): https://sbcn.co.za/login2/

Please test and let me know?

Thanks

Doug

Hi Doug

It seems to be working ok now, however I have picked two further issues, not sure if they're related to this change you made.

In my UWP menu (in the second menu bar) if the user is already logged in then the 'Login' menu item should not be visible, and wasn't prior to the change, however now it is visible?!?

As I have been creating user accounts with some of my spare email accounts (membership requires activation via email) to test this issue, I want to delete all those user accounts, and re-use them for testing again, or on other sites. However even though I've deleted the accounts on the backend in the site user list, if I try re-use an account/email address, I get an error that the user account already exists?!?

Greg

Hi Greg,

I suspect the first problem is simply a cache issue. Please check it again now.

The other one is an issue we have. When you delete a user the email still remains in the general 'Redshift' system. So I have to delete it for you. Please give me a list of emails to search and delete.

Thanks

Doug

Hi Doug

First issue not related to a caching issue, cleared all browser cache, cookies and history and it still shows the login menu item even if you're already logged in, and behaves this way in all browsers: Chrome, IE, Edge, Firefox and Opera.

I will email you a list of addresses to delete for me then, thanks.

Regards

Greg
